Anna’s head was spinning. She was royalty? The questions bounced around in her head until she couldn’t stand anymore. She fell to her knees and just stared at the ground. She could see Ben and Rice talking out of the corner of her eye, but her ears were ringing too loud for her to hear anything. Her heart pounded in her chest; she couldn’t think anymore. Why is this happening? she thought. I don’t want to be royalty. I just want to fly. She felt Rice’s large hands pull her to her feet. She refused to look up. Suddenly her hearing kicked back in.

“Do you understand, Anna?”

“What?” Anna couldn’t tell who was talking.

“I said,” Rice responded, “do you understand?”

Anna wanted to lie and say yes, but she couldn’t. “No.”

“Anna, breathe,” Ben chimed in.

Anna hadn’t noticed that she wasn’t breathing, and she immediately let out a large breath of air. She couldn’t stop panicking. First, she was apparently Ben’s twin sister, the daughter of a duke and duchess. And now, she couldn’t even fight? This can’t be happening! Anna thought.

Almost as if he were reading her mind, Rice said, “Anna, you can still fight and fly. You are talented enough not to die, not to mention your squad mates. They will make sure you stay alive. Do not worry, not yet.”

Rice’s words were more than enough comfort. Anna started to tear up, and she leaned forward into the large man. She took a deep breath and cried. Rice wrapped his massive arms around her, and she felt the warmth the large man radiated. Then Anna heard gunshots. She and Rice turned and saw Ben, rifle in hand, shooting cans off a small box.

“Ben,” Anna said, “what are you doing?”

“Practicing,” Ben said.

“Why?”

Ben turned around and said, “Because Rice said not to worry.”

“What?” Anna said.

“The way I see it,” Ben continued, “since no one knows who we are, no one’s going to be gunning for us. So if no one is going to be looking for us, we should be training instead of hiding.”

Anna looked at Ben. For some reason, he didn’t look any different, at least in how Anna looked at him. Somehow, she always knew he was her brother. Somehow. Then she realized that they would have to explain the whole thing to Ryan and Rick. That would be fun.

“What?” Rick asked.

Anna and Ben had already told Ryan and Rick the whole story three times. Rice had to stay up on the runway to make sure the makeshift shooting range would stay together, so Ben and Anna had to tell their brothers the shocking news. The family history was already becoming bland to Anna, but Ben was still telling it with an air of excitement. She had asked Rice before she left why she and Ben had the same dream, even though she’d never been to Earth. Rice said that sometimes twins were able to share dreams or thoughts, so it wasn’t abnormal, just strange.

“You mean to tell me we’re some kind of royalty, but we can’t tell anyone about it?” Rick asked.
